The Threatened Ecological Community of Subtropical and Temperate Saltmarsh is poorly understood in the Northern Agricultural Region (NAR). This project aims to identify and assess TEC areas to allow for protection and conservation, as well as future management.
Through this project, Threatened Ecological Communities (TEC) of Subtropical and Temperate Saltmarsh will be identified and mapped using flora and hydrological surveys. Priority TEC areas will then undergo condition assessment, which will inform threat assessment and abatement recommendations.
A Regional Saltmarsh Management Plan will be curated through community consultation, mapping, assessments, and recommendations. This Plan will guide future conservation investment for this TEC. Threat abatement actions will be undertaken for priority areas; weed control, access control, and debris removal.
This project will be delivered by NACC NRM in partnership with the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions (DBCA), The National Saltmarsh Map, Indigenous Ranger teams, and the community.
This project is jointly funded by the Australian Government Natural Heritage Trust and NACC NRM, a member of the Commonwealth Regional Delivery Partners panel.
