We are excited to introduce you to this month’s #PeopleOfNRM, NACC NRM’s Regional Drought Resilience Planning Project Officer Yvette Hollings!
You might have spotted Yvette on our social media pages or in our NACC Notes newsletter; Yvette joined the Sustainable Agriculture team earlier this year and has hit the ground running in her role as Regional Drought Resilience Planning Project Officer. Having lived interstate and overseas, Yvette is Geraldton born and bred and has always found the Northern Agricultural Region to be home. After living abroad, Yvette has a deep appreciation for our region’s big skies, coastal access, and mild climate.
In her role at NACC, NRM Yvette is working alongside stakeholders to begin implementing community-led projects aimed at addressing priority actions from the Regional Drought Resilience Plan (RDRP) for the Mid West pilot region. This region includes the shires of Chapman Valley and Northampton, as well as the City of Greater Geraldton.
Currently, Yvette is collaborating with the Project Advisory Group to prioritise RDRP actions and identify fitting project concepts that will help build social, environmental and economic resilience. The group consists of representatives from local government, grower groups, industry, and WA Government agencies. Following this stage, Yvette will work on co-designing projects with suitable proponents, before submitting proposals to utilise funding available from the Australian Government’s Future Drought Fund and the WA State Government.

During her time on the team so far, Yvette has enjoyed embracing NACC NRM’s collaborative approach and diverse scope of work.
“There’s opportunity to share expertise between team members who specialise in biodiversity, coastal and marine management, Aboriginal custodianship, marketing and admin, alongside the sustainable agriculture work I’m diving into every day,” said Yvette.
“I also like to think we all share a belief in and hope for a better future for our region, which is a great reason to come to work.”
When it comes to the future of Australia’s agricultural industry, Yvette is passionate about prioritising resilient and productive rural communities, as they are a critical part of the country’s food security. Yvette believes that, amid a changing climate, Australia’s agricultural industry is heavily reliant on the ongoing support and investment from Australian and State Governments to become more sustainable and resilient.
For those looking to get involved or find solutions to drought impacts, Yvette recommends the South-West WA Drought Resilience Adoption and Innovation Hub, which offers valuable resources including videos, podcasts, and updates on drought resilience. Additionally, residents in the Shire of Irwin, North Midlands, or Northern Wheatbelt should keep an eye out for regional drought resilience planning opportunities in their areas.
Stay tuned to see what Yvette and the team are getting up to around the region! For more information, visit NACC NRM’s Regional Drought Resilience Planning page or contact the Sustainable Agriculture team.
