The 2025 Sense of Place Forum, held at Seaview Park in Karakin, was once again treated to a spectacular flyover of local Carnaby’s Black Cockatoos.
Such a sight was a reminder to those in attendance of just how important this area is to Carnaby’s, with approximately 90,000 hectares of the Mid West’s foraging habitat lost to fires over the last couple of years.
It also provided a very pertinent segue for NACC NRM’s Biodiversity Program Coordinator, Jarna Kendle to take the stage and speak about the Banksia Woodlands of the Swan Coastal Plain. Jarna also sat as a member on the Landcare Panel, which wound up the morning program.

As has been the case for the last four years, the day’s wide-ranging program attracted a capacity audience. Presentations covered the Fauna and Flora of the Seaview Park Bushland subdivision, Landcare in the Midwest, and after lunch, moved into the broader issues of Carbon Removal and Nature and Offshore Windfarms, their licensing, and environmental approvals.
This project is jointly funded by the Australian Government Natural Heritage Trust and NACC NRM, a member of the Commonwealth Regional Delivery Partners panel.
