Led by NACC NRM’s Aboriginal Custodianship team, the Reconnect to Country project is now in stage three, ‘Connection to Healing’. This chapter involved Year 5 and 6 students from Beachlands, Mount Tarcoola, Waggrakine, and Bluff Point Primary Schools participating an Aboriginal Painting Workshops, facilitated by Yamatji artist Shanae Clohessy.

Through these workshops, students were invited to reflect on their own connections to the Chapman and Greenough rivers, drawing and painting local flora and fauna that inhabit these environments. Guided by Shanae, their creations grew into collective artworks that speak to the deep interdependence between people and Country.
The project carried forward the theme ‘Look after Country, Country will look after you’, with the students’ designs now immortalised as vibrant school signage. These signs will serve as ongoing reminders to students, staff, and the wider community about the importance of healing, respect, and responsibility in caring for our shared environment.
NACC NRM extends a warm thanks to local organisations Bundiyarra Aboriginal Community Aboriginal Corporation, Yamatji Marlpa Aboriginal Corporation, and Sandra Carr MLC for their contributions in delivering stage three. This project not only highlights the creativity of local students but also strengthens cultural understanding and connection, embedding Aboriginal perspectives and knowledge into everyday school life.
