On Thursday 5 March, NACC NRM was delighted to host an Awards Sundowner at the NACC NRM Enterprise Hub, celebrating the outstanding entries in the Our Estuaries Photo Competition and announcing this year’s winners.
Held in recognition of World Wetlands Day, the competition reflected the 2026 theme, “Wetlands and Traditional Knowledge: Celebrating Cultural Heritage.” This theme highlighted the deep and enduring connections between First Nations peoples, culture and the wetlands that sustain life. The evening was opened with a heartfelt Welcome to Country by Mr David Ronan, acknowledging these important connections to land and sea.
This year’s competition also brought attention to an often-overlooked but vital part of wetland ecosystems — saltmarsh. As a Threatened Ecological Community, saltmarsh plays a critical role in supporting healthy wetlands and the diverse wildlife they sustain across our region.
Approximately 40 people attended the sundowner, enjoying an evening that celebrated local talent, community spirit and the natural beauty of our estuaries. Guests enjoyed a selection of catering by Tarts & Co, rounding out a warm and welcoming evening. The quality and creativity of the entries were exceptional, showcasing a strong appreciation for these unique environments.
