Some think soil carbon is a sales pitch, and some are concerned about the small print, the methodology and reporting. Others are wondering if they will regret it in years to come. As we’ve heard one farmer refer to it, “is carbon farming all just ‘capturing fairy farts’?“

Well, now’s your chance to benefit from some unbiased, independent, expert carbon farming knowledge. No sales pitch, no political agenda, just the info you need to help make informed decisions about measuring and managing your carbon emissions – and why it matters.
The National Industry-led Carbon Farming Outreach Program (CFOP) is in place to do just that, with more than 160 workshops being delivered across the country. For Western Australia, the Program is led by the Grower Group Alliance (GGA), with partner organisations across the state playing their part too.
Here in the Northern Agricultural Region (NAR), there are a number of local groups who are hosting events, details below. All CFOP events nation-wide can also be found via GGA’s project page and those in the NAR will also be included on NACC NRM’s events page, which is worth bookmarking.
The importance of knowing your business from a carbon emissions perspective is not going away anytime soon. Nor is the need to understand and measure your natural capital and know your options for engaging with the carbon and biodiversity markets. So the CFOP is a great first step you can take to get up to speed on these emerging opportunities for your farm business.
