Under the theme ‘Look After Country, Country Will Look After You’, this stage saw the team partnering with seven local primary schools around Geraldton, facilitating a series of on-Country clean-up initiatives and storytelling sessions focused on honouring the sacred lands on which we live, learn and come together.
Each school participated at a different site, allowing students to build a direct and personal connection with their nearby rivers, beaches, and bushland. The locations included:
- Pages Beach – Beachlands Primary School
- Greenough River – Rangeway, Wandina & Mount Tarcoola Primary Schools
- St George’s Beach – Bluff Point Primary School
- Chapman River – Waggrakine Primary School
- Champion Bay Beach – Allendale Primary School

Each session began with an Acknowledgement to Country, followed by the introduction of volunteers who generously supported the activities and shared knowledge with students.
These excursions had a shared objective – a Clean Up Action, focused on caring for local waterways and coastlines. Across all schools engaged, students were enthusiastic in their involvement, collecting rubbish and learning how pollution impacts both land and sea ecosystems. Each group also learnt about the many different shore and sea birds that migrate on our coastlines every year, some travelling up to 12,000km.
For many of the kids, a highlight was Magnet Fishing – a fun and engaging hands-on activity that turned environmental care into an adventure. It quickly became a crowd favourite and sparked conversations about metal waste and the importance of looking after our natural waterways.

This stage of the program has been a powerful step in strengthening our youths’ connection to Country. Through meaningful, place-based learning, we are helping the next generation understand that caring for Country is a two-way relationship: when we look after Country, Country will look after us.
NACC NRM extends our thanks to the schools, volunteers, and community members who made this stage possible. Together, we continue to walk the path of reconnection, responsibility, and respect.
