World Soil Day – Celebrating and Protecting Soil Biodiversity

World Soil Day is an initiative of the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO)!

Each year the campaign chooses a focus; this year we are celebrating  #SoilBiodiversity on 5th December and throughout the year.

World Soil Day 2020 (#WorldSoilDay) and its campaign “Keep soil alive, Protect soil biodiversity” aims to raise awareness around the importance of maintaining healthy ecosystems and human well-being. To do this, we need to address the growing challenges in soil management, fight soil biodiversity loss, increase soil awareness and encourage governments, organisations, communities and individuals around the world to commit to proactively improving soil health.

You can find more information here: http://www.fao.org/world-soil-day/en/

This website also has some fantastic resources for you to help spread the word and encourage others to take notice of #SoilBiodiversity and soil health in general. These include posters outlining the benefits of soil biodiversity, drivers of soil biodiversity loss and five things you can do to help soil biodiversity amongst other things.  We would like to encourage every one of you to join NACC NRM in posting on your social media account on 5th December – using the hashtags #WorldSoilDay and #SoilBiodiversity – to add your voice to this campaign.
