Jeremy Brooks is the most recent local farmer to join NACC NRM’s Malleefowl project ‘Gnow or Never’ and this year fenced off 109 hectares of important Malleefowl habitat with even more fencing and revegetation planned for the coming year.
Jeremy’s property is located near Yuna, adjacent to Wandana Nature Reserve which boasts an incredibly diverse and important refuge for flora and fauna alike in the Northern Agricultural Region.
NACC NRM Bushcare Officer Jarna Kendle said Malleefowl have been shown to be highly sensitive to having their habitat grazed by sheep, cattle, goats and rabbits.
“NACC NRM’s Malleefowl project ‘Gnow or Never’ is working with landholders like Jeremy to protect and restore these last safe havens so that hopefully we will still have this amazing bird around for future generations,” said Ms Kendle.
