Vale John Longman

The Board, staff and members of the Northern Agricultural Catchments Council would like to acknowledge and celebrate the life of John Longman who passed on earlier this week in his home town of Moora.

Well-known to many farmers, landcarers and community leaders across the NACC NRM Region, John was widely recognised and saluted for his commitment and dedication to landcare and conservation in the Moore Catchment – particularly in the Gillingarra region.

John was a founding member and inaugural President of the West Koojan Gillingarra Land Conservation and District Committee (LCDC), a position he held unbroken since the establishment of the group in 1980s. He also served for many years on the Moore Catchment Council committee – since its conception.

John was a driving forces behind the success of the group for more than 35 years – helping to get many landcare projects off-the-ground – and displaying an enviable knack of getting bureaucrats and politicians up from Perth to see on-site landcare issues and to source much-needed funding to address them.

John’s long-term contribution to landcare in the region was recognised in 2016 when he was inducted into the foundation Regional NRM Leadership Honour Roll at NACC’s inaugural Regional NRM Leadership Awards.

John is the perfect example of why NACC established the Regional NRM Leadership Honour Roll. He was a dedicated and selfless individual landcare champion who made a long and lasting contribution to natural resource management in the region.

Vale John Longman.
