There is no better time to get your hands dirty than now.
It is the International Year of Soils, and to celebrate, a number of the regional natural resource management groups in Western Australia have come together to hold the Talkin’ Soil Health conference.

The conference was held this week in Kojonup, with the aim for those attending to share soil knowledge, discover innovations in soil, and learn about new soil technologies that will support improvements in soil management for agricultural land across the state.
The event also celebrated the work that farmers around Western Australia are doing in promoting soil health, with each participating region nominating a Soil Health Champion.
The Soil Health Champion for the Northern Agricultural Region was Stuart McAlpine from Buntine.
A short video was developed for each of the Soil Health Champions about what they are doing on their farms and what healthy soil means for them and their business.
Keep an eye out over the coming weeks for more stories about soil health and the Northern Agricultural Region’s Soil Health Champion’s video.
You can also test your knowledge about soils on the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations website.
