Taking care of coastlines

Coastcarers in the NACC NRM region have our back!

Coastcare groups between Guilderton to Leeman have once again shown that they have what it takes to continue to care for our amazing coastline, following the recent biannual Regional Coastcare Forum, held in Lancelin last week.

Groups discussed how they are tackling local issues and listened to a variety of presentations about projects happening within the Northern Agricultural Region.

Hosted by the Friends of Lancelin Coast the agenda was jammed pack full of hot topics. Speakers on the day included: Kate Born from the Conservation Council of Western Australia (CCWA), speaking on the Benchmarking the Accumulation of Micro-Plastics off South-Western Australia Project; Dr Nic Dunlop also from CCWA gave an update of the Tern Tracking Project; Ashley Robb from Curtin University spoke on Coastal Hazard Mapping and Dr Carolyn Harris Johnson of Seabird Progress and Sports Association explained the Seabird Seawall Project.

An open forum on other issues faced by Coastcare groups across the region followed. Discussion topics included off-road vehicles, revegetation, corporate volunteering opportunities and the need for good relations between Coastcare groups and Local Government Associations was highlighted.

NACC had the Coastal Community Trailer on display and the Replas team were there showcasing their range of recycled plastic products for coastal signage and infrastructure. Invited guest Shane Love MLA attended, showing his support for Coastcare groups in the region.
