Students becomes the teacher at Ledge Point

“Everything was excellent.”
“Great morning.”
“Thanks! It was great despite the rain.”
“Enthusiastic knowledgeable staff.”

These are just a few of the comments from participants in the latest Appreciate Your Beach session which was recently hosted by NACC at Ledge Point. The popular and interpretive beach walks have been going from strength to strength with interactive displays that are just as entertaining for adults as the kids.

Supported by the legendary Jan Richards from Ledge Point Coastcare, who went to great lengths to promote the event locally, a total of 31 enthusiastic kids and adults enjoyed the beach walk.

Recent storm activity meant there was all manner of wonderful marine life washed-up on the beach for participants to analyse. Some of the budding biologists even became teachers, sharing their newly-acquired knowledge with others joining-in the morning activities.

NACC Coastal and Marine Project Manager Hamish Longbottom couldn’t believe the turnout. “We were worried the weather would turn people off, but families just kept turning up, rain jackets on and ready to learn – it was amazing,” he said.

“It was great to see kids teaching other kids, and even adults, about what they had learned.”
