Searching for a Soil Champion

There are many exceptional farmers in the Northern Agricultural Region who know a ‘bucket-load’ about our local soils, one of whom NACC would like to recognise and promote in association with the 2018 Talkin’ Soil Health Conference.

In the lead-up to the Conference, each of the seven WA Natural Resource Management organisations will be selecting one farmer from their region for the title of Regional Soil Health Champion.

In 2015, the Northern Agricultural Region was represented by Buntine farmer Stuart McAlpine, who has  a passionate and knowledgeable connection with the soils on his farm in Buntine.

As the region’s current Soil Health Champion, Stuart has been generous in sharing his knowledge and experiences with other farmers in his area, while successfully transitioning from conventional farming methods to a more biological approach.

The Soil Health Champion award has become an important part of the Talkin’ Soil Health Conference, and NACC is on the hunt for Stuart’s successor to represent the region in March.

If you are making improvements to your soil health or know of someone who is working hard to improve the long-term sustainability and productivity of farming, then please nominate to be the Northern Agricultural Region’s next Soil Health Champion.

Nominations are now open, and close on Monday 11 December.

For further information on the Conference or to nominate yourself or a mate, please visit www.soilhealth.com.au and click on the Soil Champions tab.
