Renowned author and life coach Maggie Dent brings more to Moora

Moora’s arts performance centre was abuzz last week, as more than 100 people gathered to hear renowned author and life educator, Maggie Dent.

Ms Dent is the author of several books, and a prolific creator of resources for parents, adolescents, teachers, educators and others who are interested in quietly improving their lives.

The two seminars, hosted by the West Midlands Group and the Dandaragan Community Resource Centre (CRC), through funding from the Northern Agricultural Catchments Council (NACC), were designed to help rural women build resilience and capacity to cope with the challenges they face in rural and regional life, as well as to empower the region’s rural men to explore the best ways to remain healthy and happy on all levels.

The day kicked-off with a light-hearted and entertaining seminar for women, where Ms Dent shared her experience on how women can build resilience to better manage the good, the bad and the ugly in healthy ways.

In her presentation, she also outlined the warning signs of stress, and how to lift yourself mentally and emotionally and focus on your strengths.

In inspirational and motivational words, Ms Dent explained: “your value does not decrease based on someone’s inability to see your worth.”

“Be yourself, because there is only one of you.

“Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the number of memories we have.”

NACC Natural Resource Management Officer, Heather Legge, who attended the women’s session said: “It was one of the most relaxing and warm workshops I have been to. Maggie’s straight-forward approach was easy to connect and engage with, so I think everyone was able to get a lot out of it.”

“Maggie also used humour to discuss a wide range of difficult life challenges and was able to relate to the wide range of women in the audience.”

The women’s workshop was then followed by a strictly “men’s only” session titled: “Secret Men’s Business: Why Men Matter”.

In this session, Ms Dent explored how men can be healthy, happy on all levels — all in her unique “bloke-friendly” way.

NACC congratulates the West Midlands Group and the Dandaragan CRC for organising another very successful event, and for the opportunity to partner with us in bringing Maggie Dent into the region to share her wealth of experience with our farming community.
