Red Card for Rabbits and Foxes In Our Region

Red Card for Rabbits and Foxes is a community based feral nanimal managements program that operates across the agricultural regions of Western Australia.

Throughout the year Red Card for Rabbits and Foxes have been conducting baiting and shooting events in order to manage pest numbers in the region and safe guard the future of native protected species who are threatened by feral animals.

The Shire of Moora hosted a successful shoot over the 22nd – 23rd February where 60 participants culled 235 foxes, nine feral cats and 211 rabbits.

Over the same weekend, the Shire of Perenjori hosted a shoot in the Yarra Yarra Catchment which saw 11 participants cull 21 foxes, one feral car and 212 rabbits.

A second shoot in the Yarra Yarra Catchment over the 21st – 22nd March was also effective in culling 33 foxes, one feral cat and 121 rabbits.

The Mingenew-Irwin Group hosted their 10th Annual Fox Shoot this year with the Sporting Shooters Association of Australia WA donating $5 for every feral cat and fox culled to the Regional Men’s Health Initiative.

Well done to all organisers and participants. Collectively you have saved literally thousands of animals and more specifically the those mammals in the critical weight range (30gm to 5 kg)
Feral cats alone are culprit for 27 animals extinctions .
Monthly events would compound the kill rate.
