Here at NACC, we’re always proud of our team’s achievement, but this week we’re especially proud of one of our own – Sustainability Coordinator and standout community member Emma Jackson – who was declared the Community Citizen of the Year by the City of Greater Geraldton on Australia Day.
Emma received this award as part of the City’s 2018 Australia Day Active Citizen of the Year Awards and for her significant contribution to the local community.
She is the secretary of the Apex Club of Geraldton, the chair of Scinapse, and member of a handful of other groups that do fantastic things for our town.
“I was really honoured to receive this award, the ceremony was so exciting and I was thrilled to meet all the other amazing nominees and award winners,” Emma said.
“I really want to use this award to encourage people to be more active in the community. I get so much pleasure out of volunteering and hope to inspire other people to do the same and give back when they can.”
NACC colleague Vanessa McGuiness nominated Emma for the award, saying she was constantly amazed at how dedicated her friend was to our local community.
“Emma strives to be the best she can for the benefit of others, while bringing passion to all the activities she undertakes,” she said.
“She applies herself with an energy and enthusiasm that is contagious, and supports others to get involved in the community.”
City of Greater Geraldton Mayor Shane Van Styn congratulated Emma and the other award nominees.
“Each person who won, or was nominated, gives back to our community in a number of ways and I thank them for their ongoing contribution,” he said.
“They encourage positive change, enhance our community life and make Greater Geraldton what it is – a flourishing regional City.
“The Australia Day Active Citizen of the Year Awards are a great way to acknowledge those who put their blood, sweat and tears into our community and I thank everyone who took time to nominate.”
