Over the past 12 months, many local schools in the Northern Agricultural and Midwest regions have been actively engaged in Landcare projects – including tree planting, recycling, energy efficiency, community Coastcare projects, sustainable school gardens, wildlife protection, and local waterway rehabilitation.
To celebrate 25 years of Landcare, and to acknowledge these positive contribution to the environment, the Northern Agricultural Catchments Council (NACC) is running a 2015 Green School Awards for schools and students in the Northern Agricultural Region of Western Australia.
This year’s awards aim to encourage schools to enhance environmental awareness, and to provide students with an opportunity to share their great green projects and stories.
Four cash prizes are being offered for:
- Green Primary School of the Year ($1,250);
- Green Secondary School of the Year ($1,250);
- Primary School Student Green Project of the Year ($200);
- Secondary School Student Green Project of the Year ($300).
All schools and students in the Northern Agricultural and Midwest regions that have undertaken environmental projects in the last 12 months in their schools or community are eligible to apply.
“Students are the future custodians of the precious natural resources of this region, and it is important that we all support their efforts in caring for their environment and promoting real change in their communities,” said Stanley Yokwe, NACC’s Regional Landcare Facilitator.
