Love Your Landscape this Valentine’s Day

Valentine’s Day can be for some, an annual celebration of love, and often includes spoiling a special someone. But this year, we suggested that we all get involved in something bigger… ‘Loving Your Landscape’!

Sharing the love with the land doesn’t just benefit the environment and it’s ecosystems – it’s also proven to give YOU the warm fuzzies! A 2021 study by Landcare Australia and KPMG found that taking part in Landcare activities can lead to substantial improvements in:

  • Mental resilience
  • Physical wellbeing
  • Connection to land
  • Connection to community

When it comes to finding love, those are some serious green flags. You can read more about the wellbeing benefits to Landcare here!

The Northern Agricultural Region is part of one of the world’s 36 biodiversity hot spots, now that’s pretty hot! We are fortunate enough to call the NAR home, with its diverse landscapes, native flora and fauna, and pristine coastlines. While there is so much to explore in our backyard, it’s important that we all do our bit to care for our environment.

Beach Clean Ups – Keep an eye out for any upcoming community clean up events! Or, when you’re enjoying a swim or walk at your local beach, #Take3ForTheSea and pick up a few pieces of rubbish.

Tree Planting – Stay up to date with community groups in your area like Friends of Geraldton Gardens – Froggs Inc who run regular planting days and rely on help from volunteers. Sign up and get your hands dirty!

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle – Remember to hang onto your recyclables and dispose of them responsibly, either at a recycling point or at your local Containers for Change WA. You can even make a buck from your old cans and bottles.

So, if you think it could be time to break up with bad environmental habits, give some Love to Your Landscape! Find out more about how you can help to nurture nature by checking out these resources.
