Local Produce on the Menu to Celebrate National Agriculture Day

The 19th November is officially National Ag Day! It is a day to take a moment to acknowledge and celebrate the amazing and diverse individuals who grow and produce the food and fibre upon which we all depend.

We reckon farmers are a pretty special breed, they work incredibly hard and (especially at this time of year) sacrifice time with their own families to feed yours. So please, when you get the chance, thank a farmer for your next meal!

This year we took a two-pronged approach to celebrate the day. We hope you caught some of our National Ag day promos that ran over the course of the week on Facebook (have a look here), featuring several wonderful individuals working in agriculture within the NACC NRM region. From UWA researchers, to Grower Group CEO’s, Horticulturalists to Broadacre Lupin farmers, we hope to have highlighted just a handful of the careers available in agriculture. Thanks to everybody who got involved, and shared their own stories of getting involved in the agriculture industry, plus gave some great tips and advice for those considering this career path.

On the day itself we hosted a BBQ brunch at our NACC office in Geraldton. It was a chance for our staff and stakeholders to catch up, enjoy some of the delicious local produce, and discuss all things ag.

We were extremely proud to be able to source just about everything for our brunch from local producers including:

Goats Cheese from Bookara Goat Dairy

Beef from Walkaway, from Mick Davey Butchers,

Bacon from Northampton, from Gearings

Free Range Eggs from Lirravale Open Range Eggs, Chapman Valley

Fresh Vegies – Tomato, Capsicum, Eggplant, cucumbers – Sun City Produce (Duy Nyugen Family)

Freshly Squeezed Juice – From Spruce Juice (who use local produce as far as possible, including one of our NACC project partners, Jack Davoren at Chally Bridge Farms)

Freshly Baked Rolls from Mingenew Bakery

Choc Lupin Brownies and Lupin Raspbery White Choc Loaf – from My Provincial Kitchen (Tanya Kitto)

This event was supported through the Australian Government’s National Landcare Program.
