Life’s a beach

With the annual Geraldton Big Beach Spring Clean day just around the corner, NACC’s Coastal and Marine Program Coordinator Dr Mic Payne  talks to the ABC Midwest & Wheatbelt about why it is so important to keep our beautiful beaches tidy.

Coordinated by Tangaroa Blue Foundation, the spring clean event aims to tackle marine debris found along beaches in the Northern Agricultural Region.

About 260kg of rubbish was collected from more than 14 kilometres of Geraldton beaches, at the inaugural event last year and found that the majority of items were either pieces of plastic or fishing gear.

Hear more about the event below, and read the Beach Clean Up article on our website.
