On Sunday 28 October the Batavia Coastcare Network (BCN) coordinated the fifth annual Geraldton Big Beach Up. Batavia Coastcare Network would like to extend a huge thank you to all the supporters and volunteers who helped to make this a great event.
Thanks also go to the sponsors; Midwest Port Authority, City of Greater Geraldton, NACC, BTM Energy, Veolia Environmental Services, and Tangaroa Blue Foundation. Thanks to other supporters; Champion Bay Surf Life Saving Club, Batavia Coast Maritime Institute, Apex Geraldton, Geraldton-Greenough Farmers Market Committee and Boomerang Bags.
Big thanks to all the local community members who generously donated their time to help out. Together we removed 100kg of rubbish from Geraldton beaches. The items collected were sorted and entered in the Australian Marine Debris Initiative (AMDI) Database. This data is vital in understanding the types and amounts of marine debris and litter that are impacting our environment, and provides the evidence needed to create solutions to stop it at the source.
If you or your community group need financial support to host your own beach clean-up in the NACC Region please contact NACC’s Biodiversity Coordinator Jessica stingemore via email@example.com
