Every Australian Can Celebrate National Agriculture Day!

On 21 November, NACC NRM joined thousands of Australians to celebrate National Agriculture Day!

The aim of National Agriculture Day is to celebrate the role that Australian agriculture plays in producing high quality food and fibre every single day for all Australians and the rest of the world, and to increase awareness of this incredible industry.

And this year’s theme was #WeAreAustralianFarmers  – highlighting how agriculture makes the world a little better each year by feeding more people, and becoming more sustainable.

Across Australia we are growing and producing some tremendous things and the Northern Agricultural Region is no exception – and to celebrate NACC NRM partnered with Rangelands NRM and hosted a local brunch event in Geraldton, with all produce sourced from within a 200 km radius.

It was a great opportunity for local producers to showcase what they are growing and producing in our very own region. Tanya Kitto from My Provincial Kitchen joined the fun and was busy frying up some local lupin pancakes, Carol Metcalfe from Coastal Plains Produce served up some fresh red capsicum juice and Bao Duy Nguyen from Sun City Produce shared cherry tomatoes for guests to taste.

NACC NRM Regional Agricultural Landcare Facilitator Annabelle Garratt said the event was a great morning featuring wonderful food which highlighted how extremely lucky we are to live in a region that supplies some of the best, fresh produce in the world.

She added that “with significant changes in market demands and with transparency being a priority for the modern day consumer, NACC NRM’s #GrowForGood brunch provided an ideal platform for producers and consumers to meet and greet.”

“In addition, it highlighted the growing role that farmers play in making sure consumers understand and trust modern agriculture.”

“Showing consumers where their food and fibre comes from and the faces behind the produce, is an increasingly important part of our agriculture industry and its ongoing sustainability.”

big thanks to Sun City Produce, Lirravale Open Range Eggs, My Provincial Kitchen, Yardarino Fresh-Irwin River Mangoes, Drummonds View Olive Grove and Coastal Plains Produce for donating their produce and time on the day. Further to these very kind donations we were able support the local industry by purchasing our meat from Gearing Butchers, goat’s cheese from Bookara Goat Dairy, Honey from Gordan Munn, handmade relishes from Sottaceto Preserves and fresh bread rolls from the Mingenew Bakery.
