CEO Blog: Wrapping Up 2023 with Excellence and Reflection

Last month, NACC NRM supported the Mid West Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s 2023 Business Excellence Awards!

Representing the team were NACC NRM Chair, Elisabeth McLellan, Programs & Operations Manager Kane Watson, Accountant, Thomas Fleming, and Coastcare Support Officer, Alanah Campbell. You may recall that at last year’s Business Excellence Awards, NACC NRM was recognised for our efforts as Not for Profit and Aboriginal Engagement of the year, and most excitingly, as the 2022 Business of the Year.

This year, NACC NRM was proud to sponsor the Medium Business category with the award going to the team of Finlay’s Kalbarri who were also named the 2023 Business of the Year! Congratulations to the Finlay’s team and to the finalists across all categories for the 2023 awards. It takes a great deal of time and courage to share your story and your mission alongside others in your field. We know fabulous things are happening across small, medium and large businesses across the Mid-West, and the Business Excellence Awards are an important part of celebrating those achievements.

It is only natural as the year draws to a close, that we take time to reflect on the highs and lows. At the start of 2023, our team was giddy with excitement about our own Business Excellence Awards wins and were preparing to not only move into our very own premises, but also to put the full stop on five years of program delivery with the Australian Government under the Regional Land Partnership program. As many of you would be aware, our team and our broader community was rocked to its core in April when we lost our colleague and friend, Mr Tom Maina who passed suddenly. The loss of Tom has been deeply felt within our team and across the community. Tom’s family and loved ones are always in our thoughts.

It was then in July that with mixed emotions, the team moved into the new NACC NRM Enterprise Hub at 4 Walton Close in Geraldton. Since that time, the hub has come to life and provided exciting opportunities, new visitors, and of course many fantastic events. We look forward to a formal opening in the first half of 2024 to officially welcome our incredible community to our new premises! The team has settled in and the NNEH is beginning to feel like home. With the launch of a new booking system underway, the 2024 calendar is soon to be filled with events to make the hub buzz.

Like every year, the new year will bring with it new joys and challenges. NACC NRM will continue to advocate for the environment and work hard to deliver natural resource management outcomes for the Northern Agricultural Region. This is an important endeavour, but we can’t do it alone and we are grateful to our community of supporters and funding partners for catalysing community conservation through a combination of financial resources and in-kind support. Every little bit helps us to preserve the region’s natural capital for future generations.

For now, it is time for the NACC NRM team to take a well-earned break. Our office will be closed from 3:00pm, Friday 22 December 2023, reopening 8:30am, Tuesday 2 January 2024. We wish the NACC NRM community a safe and joyous festive season, enjoyed with loved ones.
