Building a Future for Wabarl on Badimia Barna

Badimia Bandi Barna Aboriginal Corporation, Western Mulga, NACC NRM, Rangelands NRM, Australian Wildlife Conservancy and Bush Heritage Australia recently caught up in Dalwallinu to discuss how we can work together to protect Malleefowl across our regions following on from a very successful cross regional collaboration earlier this year.

This project is providing a space for several organisations to come together and partner in protecting the Wabarl (Malleefowl) on Badimia Barna (country). This collaboration has provided a fantastic opportunity for Badimia Elders to be able to implement their Healthy Country Plan, engaging with young people on Country and providing a platform to share culture and knowledge.

At the start of the meeting, Badimia Elder Darryl Fogarty and Beverley Slater shared some Traditional Ecological Knowledge about Malleefowl with the group.

“We always know when Mallee hens are starting to lay/breed because the Mallee Flowers start to bloom on Badimia Barna,” they said.

This project is supported by NACC NRM through funding from the Australian Government’s National Landcare Program.
