As part of the Australian Government’s Caring for our Country program, NACC is offering a number of incentives to land managers to help address wind erosion.
According to Jane Bradley, Incentives Program Manager, this is a good opportunity to get funding for on ground works.
“One of the targets set by the Australian Government is lessening the effect of wind erosion,” said Ms Bradley.
“Land managers will have the opportunity apply for incentives to undertake on ground works which will help stabilise their soils and decrease the potential for further wind erosion.
“Some of the on ground work options include the establishment of perennial pastures, oil mallees, fodder shrub establishment and strategic revegetation.
“This incentives package addresses the assumption that the risk and impact of wind erosion will continue to increase as the effects of climate change become more apparent.
“Wind erosion is one of the most significant issues causing landscape deterioration in the region as it removes precious topsoil, resulting in a further decline in the health of agricultural land and the movement of nutrients across the landscape.
“It is anticipated that by addressing wind erosion problems in partnership with land managers in the Northern Agricultural Region, significant change will be achieved.
NACC is offering the wind erosion incentives on a targeted basis – sites will need to meet specific criteria to be eligible for the incentives, and expressions of interested will be assessed on a first come, first served basis.
